Prudential Assurance Uganda Limited- a fully owned subsidiary of Prudential plc, UK -has joined with Junior Achievement Uganda to introduce financial literacy lessons to Primary schools in Uganda

These financial literacy lessons are aimed at explaining to pupils the four basic concepts of Earn, Save, Spend and Donate in order to empower them to make wise monetary decisions in adulthood.

More than 500 pupils from Nakasero Primary School and Kampala Junior Academy have benefited from this program that introduces Cha-Ching Money-Smart Kids, a highly rated, award winning financial literacy program

Cha-Ching a title relating to the sound of coins (money) introduces 9-11-year olds to academically enriching and experiential leaning sessions in economic education using the Cha Ching Curriculum. The content was developed by Junior Achievement Asia Pacific, funded by Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential Plc and developed by Cartoon network.

Speaking at the climax of the six-week program, Arjun Mallik, CEO Prudential Uganda said ‘’ At Prudential, we believe that knowledge of financial management should be nurtured at an early age to teach kids how to make wise life-changing financial decisions, and we hope the young students will take on the knowledge and use it as they grow into adults’’

‘’Poor financial decision making in adulthood often finds roots in poor access to financial literacy when young. We hope the odds improve for these 500 children as a result of this programme”, Arjun added.

KCCA Education Supervisor Kampala Central division Paul Malala applauded Prudential for the initiative adding that such financial literacy programs will go a long way in providing knowledge and skills that young stars need to make better financial decisions as adults.

The lessons were delivered within classrooms by a team of dedicated Prudential employees, agents and Junior achievement staff who also shared their professional and personal experience with the pupils

The financial literacy program is part of Chairman’s Challenge, a flagship international volunteering programme that brings together people from across Prudential Group to help in their communities as part of corporate social responsibility(CSR).
