KYOTERA, Uganda: Jimmy Nkuubi, a 23 year old teacher at Green view Nursery and Primary School was over the weekend found with an SMG which is said to have been stolen from Lutti Police station in Gayaza, Kasaali Sub County in Kyotera district.

The gun, an SMG no. UG POL. 563620006 which was stolen from the Police station had led to an increase in the crime rate in the areas of Gayaza and Kasaali in the district.

Nkuubi is a former resident of Byakabanda Sub County in Rakai district. He had until just a year ago been teaching mathematics at Nabigasa Sub County.

According to Stephen Kawuki one of the residents, it is believed that Nkuubi has been raiding people’s homes asking for money and once you hesitate, you would either be shot to death or wounded in any way.

“This man has been a typical murderer and thanks to Police he has been arrested. We spent the festive season in peace with our families”, he explained.

Eva Nalwanga, a resident and member of the Local council I committee said many of the residents have been having sleepless nights due to the continuous robbing by Nkuubi and his colleagues. “People in our village of Nkenge have not tasted sleep for the last two months but if this gun has been recovered, this is good for the village”, she said.

The gun was stolen from Lutti Police station in Gayaza, Kasaali Sub County in September this year which led to the closure of the Police post. This increased the crime rate in the area and the only Police that has always coming to their rescue was Kyotera Police Station which also seems to be very far.

Musa Kayongo, the Kyotera District Police Commander said Police used its spies to locate Nkuubi with the gun. He also praised the community for being vigilance and corporation with the Police.

This gun was stolen with 29 rounds of ammunition but the DPC was surprised to find only one bullet in it. “This implies that Nkuubi and his colleagues used the rest of the bullets during their harmful deeds”, he explained.

A month ago, three suspects were arrested in Lwanda Sub County, in Rakai district and were linked to the robbers who have been terrorizing Rakai and Kyotera areas who were also suspected to be using a gun.

Kayongo said Police is now going to liaise with community leaders and get all the robbers that were connected to Nkuubi so that the year 2018 starts in a peaceful way especially in the areas of Rakai and Kyotera.
