KAMPALA, Uganda: Following President Museveni’s ultimatum to have the file of city businessman Wilberforce Wamala murder case completed, SSP Francis Chemusito, yesterday became the third cop to record a statement over allegations that he participated in the murder of the Prime suspect/witness
The Elgon Regional Police Commander joins hitherto Bukasa Police post O.C James Kau and others yet to be identified. Whereas Kau is in cells, Chemusito was offered a bond as the evidently swift investigations continue.
Details on the different murder files, some of which include extra-judicial statements, indicate that Chemusito, along with fallen AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi and Late Wamala’s estranged mistress Jolly Kasande were seen at Bukasa Police post the evening Hassim Ssali was murdered by strangling before his body was hanged using his jacket’s sleeve.
Sources at Kibuli based Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate (CIID) informed us that Chemusito, who was sweating gallons appeared before the no-nonsense senior Detective CP William Okalanyi, the Investigating Officer of the five-year long probe.
Ssali, the suspect/prime witness to the murder was arrested on the September 17th 2013 after confessing and implicating two others, Jolly Kasande and Ben Zziwa but he was found dead in a police cell on the morning of the 21/09/2013 in the cells, a day after he recorded an extra judicial statement with a magistrate.
After Ssali’s murder, Jolly Kasande and Ben Zziwa were both arrested and taken to Kibuli CID headquarters on Okalanyi’s order. Covert intelligence from Muyenga police personnel indicated that Kasande and Francis Chemusito were cited around the place that evening before Hassim Ssali’s death.
On that day Jolly had reportedly made a withdrawal of Ushs18m (eighteen million shillings) from Stanbic Bank along Ben Kiwanuka Street. She was observed to be wearing a green attire. The undercover operative confirmed she was wearing the same when she met with Chemusito that evening.
In these pages lies a story titled ‘Cop Pins Boss AIGP Felix Kaweesi and Colleagues in the Tycoon Wamala Callous Murder,’ uploaded in 2014. The story which also features a detailed report on the murder, clearly indicates Chemusito’s roles in the matter… Watch this space.
