TORORO, Uganda, A rift is brewing among the National Resistance Movement Secretariat regarding whom to back for the forth coming LCV by elections slated for next month.
According to sources within the plot 10 NRM Kyadondo offices, the rift is between the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi and the Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba.
The Investigator has established that after closed door meetings with local and district leaders in Tororo, they settled in on Jaramogi Oloo Zedekia, the younger brother to the late Tororo LC5 chairperson Apollo Jaramogi who passed on early this year. Tororo district has of late been embroiled in internal squabbles with sectarian tendencies undermining development and unity among the population following the death of Jaramogi. Jaramogi passed on in Nsambya Hospital after suffering a stroke due to long illness.
Last week four candidates, Jaramogi Oloo Zedekia, Geresom Oketcho, Jackson Oboth and Oluka Martin were duly nominated for the NRM party primaries to fill the seat. The NRM has set May 22 as the date for the Tororo district LC5 Chairperson primaries.
We have established that though scores of senior party member’s position was to have relative of the late, (due to sympathy votes), Dr. Tanga Odoi, a son of the same soil is against the move by the NRM secretary General Justine Lumumba. Plot 10 Kyadondo sources intimated to us that Tanga is fronting Geresom Oketcho who hails from his home area in Kisoko. Oketcho stood for West Budama North Parliamentary seat in 2016 and emerged 5th in the race.
According to people on ground, Geresom Oketcho can’t have the mantle to woo the people of Tororo. This scenario according to sources will give the former Tororo district chairperson Emmanuel Osuna the chance to bounce back as district chairperson.
Speaking to this paper Zedekia Oloo Jaramogi, said what is happening now is geared towards intimidating him so as to fail.
“I swore an affidavit and changed my name from Oloo Zedekia to Jaramogi Oloo Zedekia and handed over the papers and was duly nominated. But surprisingly I am being told that the name Jaramogi has been scrap off the party primary ballot papers,” said Zedekia. He said he was surprised when he was called by the NRM Electoral Commission Legal department to return to clear his papers in Kampala yet campaigns have started off. “All these are plans of disorganizing me, but I will shoulder on,” said the Head teacher cum politician.
Dr. Tanga Odoi however ruled out any foul play. He said since he is from Tororo, he had decided to entrust the by election process to his Deputy to avoid conflict of interest. He urged all Adholas to turn up in big numbers and vote for a candidate of their choice.
