Singer Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, is attracting attention for more than his music after being spotted moving around with military escorts, a black sports utility vehicle and what observers describe as heightened security.

The Gagamel Entertainment boss has reportedly been seen with additional military police personnel during public appearances, triggering debate over whether the musician is receiving protection ordinarily associated with senior government officials.

The striking security arrangement has left some Ugandans asking a question that has become a talking point on social media: Is Bebe Cool still operating as a private citizen, or has his proximity to the corridors of power earned him privileges normally associated with public office?

The deployment has also reignited debate about the relationship between celebrity, political influence and state security resources in Uganda, where prominent musicians have increasingly become important voices in the country’s political and cultural conversations.

Although some online commentators referred to the escorts as members of the Special Forces Command (SFC), others insisted that the personnel visible in the circulating observations were military police. The precise unit, the authorisation for the deployment and the official purpose of the protection had not been independently established at the time of writing.

Nevertheless, the images and reports have been enough to ignite a lively online debate, with some Ugandans questioning the arrangement and others dismissing the criticism as jealousy.

‘Is He Heading To A Cabinet Meeting?’

The sight of the singer moving with military personnel has inspired a stream of sarcastic commentary, with social media users wondering whether his public profile has evolved into something beyond entertainment.

One commentator joked that Bebe Cool was “moving like he’s late for a cabinet meeting”, adding that the black SUV and military presence made him appear more like a government heavyweight than a musician.

The remark captured the central question driving the debate: what explains the security detail accompanying a singer who does not hold a publicly established ministerial or other senior government position?

Another online user, Jasper Ocang, questioned why a military unit would be providing security to a private citizen instead of the police.

“One wonders why SFC would be providing security to a private citizen instead of the police. Is there a particular reason for this arrangement?” Ocang asked.

His concern touches on a broader public-interest issue: the rules governing the assignment of state security personnel to individuals who are not formally serving in government.

Ugandans pay taxes to finance the country’s security institutions, and questions about who receives special protection, under what circumstances and at whose direction are therefore matters of public accountability.

However, the debate cannot be settled by photographs or social media descriptions alone. Establishing whether the deployment is an official protection arrangement, a temporary assignment or a security measure made for a specific occasion would require clarification from the relevant authorities.

‘It Is Wrong To Think He Is An Ordinary Ugandan’

Some commentators argue that Bebe Cool’s position in Uganda’s political and entertainment circles makes comparisons with an ordinary citizen misleading.

Kiragga Abdul, posting as @KiraggaAbdul, wrote: “It’s very wrong for one to think Bebecool is still an ordinary Ugandan like others.”

The comment suggests that, in the eyes of some observers, the singer’s influence extends beyond the music industry.

Bebe Cool has long maintained a public profile that combines entertainment, business and political engagement. His association with President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has made him a familiar figure in discussions about musicians who support the government.

Supporters of the singer may see the security detail as a reflection of his prominence or the responsibilities associated with his public engagements. Critics, however, want to know whether there is a formal basis for the arrangement and whether comparable protection is available to other people facing similar security concerns.

The distinction matters because political connections and public popularity do not, by themselves, establish an individual’s entitlement to publicly funded protection.

Neither the presence of military personnel nor a black SUV automatically proves that a musician has been appointed to government office.

Military Sources: What Is The Arrangement?

The questions surrounding Bebe Cool’s escorts have also raised speculation about his relationship with senior government officials and whether he enjoys a special security arrangement because of his political engagements.

However, no military source was independently available to confirm that the singer had been formally designated a presidential adviser on entertainment or that his escorts were assigned under a particular government directive.

In September, Police spokesperson Michael Kananura addressed questions about a black Land Cruiser associated with Bebe Cool that had reportedly been seen without ordinary registration plates. Kananura said enforcement officers intercept vehicles at designated points rather than searching for them at owners’ homes, adding that apparent non-enforcement did not mean a vehicle was exempt from the law.

The latest debate therefore comes against a backdrop of existing questions about the singer’s vehicle and security arrangements.

The President’s Entertainment Connection

Bebe Cool’s political connections are not new. For years, the musician has been a prominent supporter of President Museveni and the NRM, placing him among entertainers who have crossed into political mobilisation.

His influence has been associated with the Silent Majority, a political mobilisation initiative that sought to present government supporters as a quieter but substantial section of the population.

A 2019 analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies discussed how Museveni sought to engage musicians to reach audiences that political organisations could struggle to mobilise through conventional channels. It identified Bebe Cool as a supporter of the President and a leading figure in the Silent Majority.

That history helps explain why some observers view Bebe Cool as more than a performer. His public interventions, political loyalties and role in organising supporters have made him a recognisable figure in the intersection between entertainment and state politics.

Some of his supporters regard him as an informal adviser on entertainment and the concerns of ordinary Ugandans who do not necessarily express their political views loudly.

But an informal political role is not the same as a formal appointment. Without an announcement or confirmation from State House, describing Bebe Cool as a presidential adviser remains an interpretation of his influence rather than an established official position.

‘Let The Boy Eat’

Not everyone is troubled by the singer’s security detail. Andy Tony Odong, posting as @andytonyodong, offered a more sympathetic interpretation, writing: “His dad was a minister when the office was still relevant, let the boy eat.”

The remark appeared to mock the outrage over Bebe Cool’s perceived privileges, suggesting that critics should allow him to enjoy the rewards of his position and success.

“I’m seeing nothing but envy and jealousy here. So, a man having a black SUV with a Red Top soldier is enough to give you sleepless nights?” he wrote.

The exchange reflects the polarised way the singer is viewed: for his supporters, he is an established entertainer and businessman whose prominence attracts attention; for critics, the visible military presence raises legitimate questions about equality before the law and the use of state resources.

Another commentator, posting as @taye_edgar, linked the controversy to taxation, arguing that it was frustrating to see money collected through taxes potentially supporting arrangements that ordinary citizens do not enjoy.

The concern is not proof that taxpayers are funding Bebe Cool’s security. Rather, it highlights the need for transparency about who authorises such deployments and how they are financed.

Arafat Ephraim (@AEphraim15501) offered another explanation for the singer’s changing public profile, arguing that Bebe Cool is now more focused on business than music.

“The guy was clear his doing business only for fun and legacy now,” the commenter wrote, referring to his mining and construction ventures.

That view presents the singer as a businessman whose public activities extend beyond recording songs and performing at concerts.

The Silent Majority Factor

Bebe Cool’s association with the Silent Majority has also given him a political platform through which he can mobilise supporters and communicate government-friendly messages.

In September 2026, members of the Silent Majority Media Team publicly expressed solidarity with him, describing their participation in President Museveni’s campaign activities and defending the singer against criticism from some former colleagues.

The episode illustrated that Bebe Cool’s political networks extend beyond his personal relationship with the President to include people who have worked alongside him in campaign mobilisation.

It is this combination of celebrity, business interests and political networks that fuels speculation about his influence.

Whether that influence amounts to an advisory role at State House, however, remains unconfirmed. Nor does the existence of a political support base automatically establish that its leader speaks for all Ugandans who are politically quiet or less vocal on social media.

Questions The Authorities Must Answer

The controversy ultimately goes beyond Bebe Cool’s personal security. It raises questions about the criteria used to assign military escorts to civilians, the distinction between personal protection and official duties, and whether the public can obtain an explanation when an arrangement attracts widespread attention.

If the deployment is authorised, the relevant authorities could help settle the debate by explaining its general purpose without disclosing operational details that might compromise security.

Bebe Cool could also clarify whether the escorts are connected to a specific official engagement, a personal security concern or another authorised arrangement.

Until then, the singer’s military escorts will remain a subject of public curiosity, with supporters defending his prominence and critics demanding answers.

For now, the black SUV and uniformed escorts have become a talking point in their own right. The bigger question is whether the arrangement reflects an established security need, an official responsibility or simply an arrangement that has not been adequately explained to the public.
