The three banned officials include Abraham Luzzi Police FC’s CEO, a one James Kaweesa and journalist David Isabirye after they have been found guilty of match-fixing.
Local football federation-FUFA standing firm through their FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee last Wednesday evening handed individual bans to all the three. The decision is in line with FUFA’s Zero tolerance Policy against all kinds of Match manipulation or match fixing.
According to the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee; Abraham Luzzi is handed ten (10) years, while Kaweesa will serve a 15-year ban from taking part in any kind of football activities at National and International level.
They breached Articles 27, 31 and 44 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code, all related to the manipulation of football matches and Competitions, failure to report and breach of General duties of conduct.
The duo was therefore found guilty for approaching a player to influence and manipulate the results of the Uganda Cup match between Five Stars FC and Tooro United FC.
For him, a professional journalist, David Isabirye from Kawoowo Sports, has been banned for two (2) years. He will not take part in any kind of football activities at National and International level.
Isabirye`s failure as a credible journalist to report the truth caught up with him. He breached Article 31 (Failure to report) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.
He is banned for failure to report the illegal and dubious conducts of Abraham Luzzi and James Kaweesa who approached a player to influence and manipulate the result of the said Uganda Cup match.
Isabirye also failed to provide valid and acceptable evidence to show that he had fulfilled his duty to report the illegal conduct. The said match took place in January 2022 at Works playground in Entebbe ending goalless before Tooro United progressed after an 8-7 penalty shootout win.
It was reported that Five Stars goalkeeper Jackson Kigozi was approached by the banned two officials for gives and bribes. The duo was arrested at Abayita-Ababiri Police station before they were released.
So, the two local Ugandan football club officials will serve in total 25 years ban while the journalist serve his two years making it 27 years in total.
