There is this Movie ‘A few Good Men’. The conflict in this movie is a battle between useful ethics, which assumes that the end justifies the means, and the belief that we must always represent the rights of the individuals. So, it’s my moral duty to tell you my take on Uganda’s sports and why the Movie suits just correctly, what the end may be for the good Minister.
To start with, Hon. Peter Ogwang is very necessary and too true a man to patron the very corrupt field of Sports as its Minister. Yet, as the country needs good men like Ogwang patronizing and watching over the sports field, the actual players and stakeholders are looking at him with an eye that is not welcoming of a man who claims to clean all the rot and dirty, but rather hatching plans and plotting for his downfall, this website can reveal.
With a curious brain and body plus our itinerant eye, this website launched into a sports intelligence, particularly looking at the areas of administration and management of Ugandan sports Vs the honorable big talking, and true and clean Minister that Ogwang is for the sports docket. Ogwang is very necessarily doing the necessary job but he is doing the unnecessary, according to the ladies and gentlemen he is patronizing on.
His wanting to clean the rot in especially the administrative wing of the sports in the country, might soon, if not later, land him into trouble. We don’t play doom and loom though… just predicting. By the look of things, Minister of sports Peter Ogwang is fast raising beyond and swelling so much bigger than the docket he is meant to handle. Given a corrupt sports field in the country, with rivalries and battles here and there, for this or for that, Ogwang is headed for tougher than he expects, time, and his time at the ministry is starting to tickle faster, for a transfer player` plots have been hatched already.
Just the other weekend, the minister continued his usual ridicules at the administrators of sports, this time citing International Sports trips by Unnecessary team officials. He calls for cost effective international sports event trips by only those valued to be on contingents, not officials’ spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, their sons and daughters. Others, too, have gone ahead to travel with their grannies and granddads at the athletes’ expenses on government`s fully paid sports trips. Such has in the past and present, been the status quo.
As the state minister for sports, Ogwang questions the number of officials who travel to international sports competitions at the expense of athletes. The minister made these remarks on Saturday while awarding the outstanding athletes that won medals at the just concluded 2022 Birmingham commonwealth games. Okay, talking about winners of Uganda’s medals at Birmingham, four athletes in Jacob Kiplimo, Victor Kiplangat, Peruth Chemutai, and Teddy Nakimuli were awarded at the NCS Complex in Lugogo, presided over by Ogwang himself.
As he awarded the athletes, Ogwang grabbed, sorry, it was his time on the podium, and noted; “Officials (whom he referred to as visitors) travel in big numbers to sports events and use resources” that would have been channeled to facilitate the athletes to put up perfect performances. That there have been several complaints raised on the selection of officials that exceed athletes while going for international sports events funded by the government.
Here, the Minister is right. During the Olympic games in 2021, Uganda sent a 56-member contingent, 25 of them athletes competing in four disciplines, and the rest of the traveling contingent, 31 in number, were selfish officials including coaches, general officials, administrators, and government officials.
Very recently, at the 2022 Birmingham commonwealth games, many officials who accompanied athletes were bounced from accessing the games village. They were not on the list and therefore, not accredited for the games. So, Ogwang talking all this is right but annoying some officials thus.
Ogwang’s determination is that the funding be focused on players’ allowances and preparations to shape them better as motivation. Also, the other day, he ranted about the stadia in front of the very men and women who misuse funds. They are watching! His only good for some sections is his agitation for more funding to sports. But then gentlemen are scheming and positioning strategically to grab the money as soon as it ticks into the account. Now, the Movie that was release December 9th 1992 in the USA, comes to life in Uganda today. Kendrick, the General was actually the real culprit not his juniors. So, the end will justify the means for Ogwang because those guys are watching and could soon start hatching plots for his future, young Minister.
