It’s tough on the playing field, not on the touchline so go to the Sin Bin. Talking about the Sin-bin, it’s the designated place outside the playing area within which a temporarily suspended player must remain. However, for Warriors Rugby club player Gabriel Oredo’s grave attack on a journalist and therefore viewed as indiscipline on the pitch, he will stay in this bin permanently for a whooping ten months as a ban from all Uganda Rugby Union (URU) sanctioned game activities.
Pronouncing themselves officially on the player’s actions, URU confirmed their action through a 3rd October statement that this website saw and read. Just days after the incident on 25th September 2022, the local sports press through their mother Umbrella -Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) condemned the attack on a New Vision sports journalist, Johnson Were, threatening to boycott all rugby games until justice is served.
The saddening incident happened on Sunday, September 25th at Bugembe stadium during the Kyabazinga 7s semifinal between Kobs and Heathens.
A trending video showed Gabriel Aredo who plays for Warriors Rugby club, physically assaulting Were, who is the USPA General Secretary and a sports journalist. Reports indicate that a fight ensued after the chairman of the organizing committee, Erasmus Aredo confronted former national team player Alex Mubiru for being too close to the touchline. In the process, Gabriel joined his brother in the fight, and on realizing that Were was taking photos of them, he charged at him with the intention of grabbing his camera.
