What started a decade back as a rumor, is quickly turning and shaping into a complete reality. Serving then as the coordinator of the country’s intelligence services, retired Gen David Munungu Tinyefuza alias Sejusa, broke the news, that Gen. Museveni was grooming his son, Gen. Muhoozi, to replace him as the president of Uganda!
Tinyefuza had caused a storm in the tea cup, rounding up with his self-induced exile in the United Kingdom. Such information was unpalatable especially considering how Sejusa was even alleging the existence of a plot to assassinate senior members of the military who were supposedly opposed to what he described as Muhoozi [presidency] Project.
Gen Edward Katumba Wamala and Gen Aronda Nyakairima, two senior military officers whom Sejusa had claimed were targets of the assassination plot, quickly stepped out, dismissing the information as being a fiction of Sejusa’s fertile imagination.
Gen Edward Kale Kayihura, whom Sejusa had claimed as the one who had been allegedly tasked to eliminate the opposers of the alleged Muhoozi project, not only dismissed the claim, but also threatened to sue it’s purveyor.
Notably, Sejusa himself despite alleging to to be one of the targets of the elimination plot that he talked of for allegedly opposing the then so-called Muhoozi Project, not only has he since returned to Uganda from his self-induced exile, but continues todate, to live in peace both in Naguru and Mawogola – Ssembabule, without any harm to his life.
Come fast to today, Gen Kainerugaba Muhoozi, the First Son and new Chief of Defence Forces ( CDF), appears to currently be left with merely two remaining realistic roadblocks to navigate, as he runs his final lap to the President of Uganda.
Nevermind that when the news about his future presidential ambitions first broke in 2012 or thereabouts, Gen Muhoozi dismissed them, insisting that he was comfortable with serving his motherland as a disciplined soldier. But Gen Muhoozi has since asserted that those who accused him of harboring presidential ambitions were the ones who incited groups of Ugandans to ask him to stand for power, compelling him to respond to their wishes in order to potentially accomplish their dreams and aspirations.
President Yoweri Museveni not only no longer deny that Gen Muhoozi will be his successor in power, but also, famously stated one time in the past that the First Son will be able to fight corruption better than him. Truth be told, Gen Muhoozi has whatever it takes to be a president of Uganda be it the legally prescribed age, education, citizenship, service to the country, experience and so forth and so on.
The alternative available to those who do not wish him to be the next president, is to prepare adequately and face him in an election in order to stop him from winning the race to State House, subject to a free and fair election. But to claim to uphold constitutionalism whilst attempting to stop others from enjoying their rights bestowed on them by the Constitution, is to simply put, sound ambiguous and absurd.
Going back to the gist of this story, Gen Muhoozi’s presidential victory looks a matter so inevitable that it looks like it can only be stopped by the intervention of God and by President Museveni. God can intervene, God forbid, by taking away Gen Muhoozi and hence stopping him from succeeding his father in power.
President Yoweri Museveni can stop Gen Muhoozi from succeeding him by refusing to cede ground for him to vie for power and hence stopping him from succeeding him. Bar what I have just stated above, I see no further circumstance or anything capable of potentially stopping Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba from realizing his long dream of taking charge of the State House.
Suffice it to state that with the army, the incumbent president and both the State and government institutions rightfully behind him, I honestly cannot see anything else that can stop him from potentially running away with the presidency of Uganda, may be except if Ugandans have since smartened up like their brothers and sisters in Senegal.
