Foreign Affairs Minister Gen. (Rtd) Abubaker Jeje Odongo on Wednesday morning took the oath of office for the 12th Parliament, pledging to serve the people of Orungo County in Amuria District diligently and effectively. Accompanied by family members, Gen Odongo vowed to represent his constituents to the best of his ability as Parliament continued the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected legislators.
Among the prominent leaders sworn in were Vice President Jessica Alupo, Bukedea Woman MP Annet Anita Among, and Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development Davinia Esther Anyakun. Other MPs who took oath included Dan Kimosho (Kazo District), Anne Abeja Adeke (Soroti City Woman MP), Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero (Lira City Woman MP), Bernadette Chandia Kodili (Moyo District Woman MP), Lilian Aber (Kitgum District Woman MP), Sam Engola, Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi (Rukiga County), Aine Godfrey Kaguta (Mawogola North County), Marshall Alenyo (Jonam County), Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe Mwanaki (Rukiga District Woman MP), and Remigio Achia (Pian County).
The swearing-in marks the beginning of parliamentary business for Uganda’s 12th Parliament, with lawmakers expected to embark on legislative duties in the coming days.
