MENGO, Kampala: In 2015, a deceptive woman barely in her early twenties stunningly outsmarted Mengo establishment, the influential administrative seat of Buganda Kingdom. She postured as if she was a genuine heiress to the late Her Royal Highness (HRH) Evelyene Kulabako Maasombira, the late Sir Daudi Chwa II`s Queen Mother.
Her well-concealed intention was to secure Mengo’s vital endorsement, potentially confirming her as the next Namasole. Her grand calculation was to land her hands on Namasole’s very prime and expansive estate located in Kanyanya, merely four kilometers from Uganda’s Kampala Capital City! – Let`s first get a few things out of the way and then go back to discuss the deceptive woman and her frauduIent schemes.
The late HRH Maasombira was one of the seveenteen wives married to the late Buganda Kingdom`s 33rd legendary King, Danieri Bassamuleekkere Mukasa Mwanga II. Mwanga sired Daudi Chwa with Maasombira. Maasombira’s said only child succeeded her husband following his deposition by the White colonialists.
That was to be expected because Maasombira (rolling eyes) was the late Kabaka Mwanga’s most favorite wife. Futhermore, the late Chwa was in turn the father of the late Sir Edward Fredrick Luwangula Muteesa II, who succeeded him to the throne, hence becoming the 35th King of Buganda. The above illustrated family tree implies that the late Maasombira was the grandmother of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the reigning 36th King of Buganda kingdom.
Clan elders fooled
Returning to the frauduIent woman whom we opened this article with, we call her fraudlent since a Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Fredrick Egonda Ntende in 2019 decreed so. Styling herself as Magedleine Nabikande Ndibalekera, she started by fooling the Ngabi (bush-buck) clan elders, appointing her and installing her as the genuine and true Namasole of the late Chwa.
Thereafter, the clan elders made the journey to Mengo, delivering a letter, introducing her as the next Namasole absolutely unaware that she was eyeing Namasole’s expansive estate, not only to plunder it but completely ruin it. Prior to her 2013 passing, Julian Nabikande Ndibalekera, whom Magedleine was fraudulently seeking to replace, had served for many years as the late Chwa’s undisputed Namasole.
She had been appointed to that office based on her blood relations with the late Maasombira. The late Queen Mother and Ndibalekera’s father were siblings. Consequently, the late Maasombira was an aunt to the equally late Ndibalekera.
Mengo endorses fake grandniece
Conversely, by the time they appointed her, the Ngabi clan leaders were not aware that Magedleine was not a grandniece to the late Ndibalekera, and so was Mengo, the administrative seat of Buganda kingdom. That was how Mengo, alas, endorsed her appointment basing on information that Ngabi clan elders had given to them.
And yet the said clan elders were not also, interestingly aware of her lies. At the time this saga unfolded, Eng John Baptist Walusimbi was the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda kingdom. He was also the one who recieved the letter from the Ngabi clan elders, appointing the controversial woman as the Namasole. Puzzlingly, even after being told by some of the members of the Ngabi clan about her lies, Mengo grippinglyrejected to accept the said clarifications.
Kabaka Intervenes
His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II subsequently commissioned a committee, tasking the same to investigate whether Magedleine had been validly appointed or not. He appointed the History Professor, Ssemakula Kiwanuka, to chair the said committee. He named Eng. Walusimbi, the Katikkiro at that material time, one of the members of that committee.
At the end of the day, Prof Ssemakula and Eng. Walusimbi wrote a report, upholding Magedleine’s appointment. But in an interesting turn-around, Mengo has since denounced her appointment, endorsing another, known as Dorothy Nandawula. Be that as it may, by the time Mengo red-carded her, she had already disturbingly sold off the largest portion of Namasole’s state.
Court Disrespected, Queen Mother’s Tombs Sold off
Such was how she had recklessly and shamelessly ruined Namasole’s formerly vast estate that she had even disposed of the entire palace, complete with the burial grounds containing the remains of the late Kabaka Mutebi’s grandmother, also Chwa’s Queen Mother, the late HRH Evelyne Kulabako Maasombira!
The same burial grounds also contained the remains of the late Namasole Ndibalekera, plus the ones of whom she replaced. Irrefutably, this investigative online media website can divulge that Magedleine sold off the palace complete with the burial grounds at UGX600m on November 25th 2021.
The Buyers
A medical Doctor known as Dr. Ibrahim Mike Okumu of Bukoto-Kisaasi in Nakawa Division, was the one who purchased those properties comprised in Kyaddondo Block 207 Plot 1482 and measuring 0.639 hectares. Hardly a year later, on August 22nd 2022, Dr Okumu sold off the same to a one Allan Godfrey Kaddu, of Entebbe Municipality in Wakiso district at UGX900m.
One of Magedleine’s witnesses was Abraham Luzzi, a controversial man Mengo partly based on to drop her from the position of Namasole, reportedly since he had made her pregnant. Puzzlingly, by the time of those transactions, there was a subsisting permanent injunction, stopping Magedleine from dealing in the Namasole’s estate.
Lady Justice Ketrah Kitariisibwa Katunguka was the one who issued the said permanent injunction after writing a judgment, clearly declaring Magedleine an impostor. She tried to appeal, but chickened out only to brazenly, recklessly and illegally selling off the palace complete with the burial grounds.
Grandson Saves the Day
Even after selling off the palace and burial grounds, she again sturbbonly refused to give vacant possession to Dr Okumu, the initial purchaser, prompting him on September 19th last year, to issue to her a strongly-worded notice to sue. Fortunately, the late Ndibakekera’s grandson, Dennis Ssempebwa credibly mobilized funds, refunding what the purchasers had paid to the vendor.
Ssempebwa is the son of Jane Nambi Ssempebwa, aged 85 years, one of the two children that the late Namasole, Julian Nabikande Ndibalekera left behind. The other is John Fisher Musoke Mukalazi who resides in the United Kingdom. Stay tuned in to hear from us how Magedleine was able exactly to successfully pose as the Namasole and who exactly helped her in her frauduIent shemes.
