When you first hear about the death of little Rugari Nganwa, the only two-and-a-half years old lad at the hands of his own mother, it strikes the brain like a lightning in broad daylight. What kind of mother murders her own child? The words themselves resist forming in one sentence. And yet, here we are, standing at the abyss of humanity’s most terrifying reality – filicide!
In one of Uganda’s most grotesque and jaw-dropping domestic crime stories, Jolin Kanoheri, 40, is standing trial for allegedly killing her son, Nganwa Rugari. Alongside her stands Robinah Nabbanja, 24, the maid-turned-accessory, who reportedly helped cover up the boy’s unnatural demise. This isn’t some back-alley crime tale! It is a scandal perched right in the upper echelons of Kampala society.
Jolin is the estranged wife of Chris Rugari, Zimbabwe’s Honorary Consul to Uganda and a celebrated businessman. Together, they sired five children, the penultimate being little Nganwa, whose death is now the centre of Uganda’s most sensational legal and moral storm.
From Lovebirds to Murder Dockets
Chris and Jolin were once the golden couple, living a fairy-tale life that began in 2008 with what friends say was “love at first sight.” They married the same year in a lavish Rwandan wedding and over the next 14 years, built a life that most would envy. From hospital delivery rooms to international schools, Chris was a permanent fixture in his children’s lives.
The couple’s public image was pristine, until it shattered like glass in November 2023, when Chris received an anonymous call. The stranger demanded custody of a child he claimed was his, yet one of the very children Chris had raised as his own. The voice, friends suppose, wasn’t unfamiliar to Chris! It reportedly belonged to someone Jolin had always introduced as hercousin.
This was no prank call. The DNA tests Chris took, in secret, unraveled the family’s darkest tapestry! Only the first-born child was biologically his. The others? Not his. The betrayal was biblical. When Chris confronted Jolin with the evidence, she allegedly snapped thus; “How could I have all my kids with an ugly man like you?”The marriage was declared dead, in both soul and spirit. Chris left for Zambia with his biological son, heartbroken and psychologically wrecked.
The Slope into Darkness
Now separated, Jolin returned to Uganda with the remaining children, her pride wounded, her future uncertain. Chris, trying to maintain peace and dignity for the children’s sake, agreed to split property amicably and pursue a quiet divorce. But silence soon gave way to suspicion.
With pending DNA tests for the remaining children scheduled for April 2nd, 2025, tension hovered like a blade over Jolin’s head. She suspiciously woke up one day and shifted from Muyenga to the unfinished marital home in Mutungo. What happened on the morning of April 2nd is what prosecutors say sealed her fate.
At around 8:30 a.m, instead of a call from the lab confirming the DNA testing process, Chris received a phone call from one of his lawyers, announcing that little Nganwa was dead. Declared “dead on arrival” at a hospital in Kitintale, the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s sudden demise triggered police suspicion, and soon, Jolin was placed in the prime suspect`s seat before getting instantly arrested.
The Sex Scandals and Smart Wire Tales
As if filicide weren’t ghastly enough, a web of blackmail, infidelity, and social rot began to unfurl. Reports began to surface that Jolin had been entangled with two “Smart Wire Vendors”… a colloquial term for attractive, discreetly transactional men, hired by wealthy women for bedroom services. Her supposed lovers, reportedly bankrupt by her move to Turkey, had begun blackmailing her, threatening to expose her secrets if she didn’t pay up.
Trapped between collapsing lies, a crumbling marriage, and looming DNA tests, Jolin is believed by investigators to have panicked, allegedly taking her own son’s life to avoid losing more than she already had. Whether this was an act of cold-blooded calculation or a psychotic break is now a matter for the courts.
Damage Control Gone Mad
In the aftermath, a media manipulation machine revved into gear. A crew of infamous content creators from the Bavandimwe Forum reportedly approached Jolin with a PR rescue plan, a shameful campaign to rewrite her narrative. They painted her as the victim of a marriage breakdown, citing mutual agreements for separate bedrooms and fabricated tales of Chris’s one-child policy.
But this smokescreen crumbled under the weight of public records and Chris’s own statements, including his now-viral quote:“How can she say we were separated when I was buying her Land Cruisers and flying her to Dubai every other weekend?” Indeed, memories of the celebrated 31st birthday bash for Jolin in 2015 marked by the gift of a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser, was a loud contradiction to the supposed estrangement timeline.
Justice for Nganwa
In the fog of scandal, one name rises with clarity. Nganwa Rugari. An innocent child caught in a war of love, lies, and lethal decisions. AtThe Investigator, we side with the voiceless. We demand justice for Nganwa and we will continue to follow every twist, every courtroom drama, every whispered secret and oh yes… everything no media elsewhere would put up in the fight for little Nganwa`s justice… For, in a world where a mother can kill their own child, nothing is considered unthinkable anymore.
Stay tuned for this special investigative series by our own, Stanley Ndawula… from The Diary of a Killer Mother; What Police Found in Jolin’s Home; What is the postmortem reading…” to much more, will be unveiled…
