Tycoon Habib Kagimu’s tough attorneys at the law firm of Muwema and Company Advocates have issued a tough notice to the Red Pepper publications, demanding a massive UGX5.5Bn in compensation centered on a recent story, alleging the arrest of their client by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
More problematically, Hajj Kagimu’s tough lawyers based in Kololo, demand that Red Pepper must fork out the massive payment within merely three days, which is a tough call really, given the fact that Red Pepper online’s parent media publications, which consisted of a number of vernacular newspapers complete with an FM Radio Station, have since, all of them, regrettably, folded up.
To add hot pepper to a cancerous wound, Hajj Kagimu notifies the publishers of the alleged offensive content to prepare for prosecution, based on malicious information pursuant to Section 28 of the Computer Misuse Act Cap 96. Be that as it may, Hajj Kagimu doesn’t want to know the current financial straits of Red Pepper. He insists that since they purportedly published an alleged false story against him, which was also supposedly defamatory in nature, the intended suspects or defendants deserve to be condemned in huge compensation as a deterrence measure to stop them from ever daring to repeat what they did.
The story dated September 27th alleged that Muhoozi was the one who personally ordered for Hajj Habib Kagimu’s arrest and imprisonment inside a military barracks over what the publishers of the impugned story termed as ‘air’ logistic supplies which Hajj Kagimu allegedly made to the military, which Muhoozi is the second most top boss of after his father, President and commander-in-chief, Gen Yoweri Museveni.
A notice to sue from the law firm of Muwema and Company Advocates which we have chanced upon, literally dismisses whatever Red Pepper posted on their media website against their client as a fiction of their fertile imagination. The tough lawyers note that this is not the first time for Red Pepper to allegedly publish false and defamatory stories against their client, referencing similar stories which they published in 2009 and 2010, culminating into their condemnation by the Media Council.
The brief notice to sue, sent to the Red Pepper, is copied to the Media Council, the Uganda Communication Communication who are the regulators of social media publications, and to the Uganda Police among others. Finally, we counsel and pray that both the Red Pepper and Hajj Kagimu find an amicable settlement of their regrettable differences, if any, since both need each other.
