In a recent media interaction, the businessman reportedly declared that he is already financially successful and does not depend on State House favors for survival. The remarks immediately triggered debate across political circles, with some interpreting them as a sign of increasing political independence. “He wants to project himself as a self-made billionaire who cannot easily be controlled,” one Kampala-based commentator noted.
That image has only added to growing speculation about his long-term ambitions within the ruling movement. Behind closed doors, some party insiders reportedly worry that Balaam’s expanding grassroots machinery could complicate existing succession calculations inside the NRM.
