Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha’s notable performance as the Managing Director and his management team, in his last ten years at the helm has been a ‘Vote of Confidence’ in him (Mugisha) by the Board of Directors of Corporation.
His re-appointment announced at the Cooperation’s International Resource Center in Bugolobi on Tuesday has been done in full compliance with Section 16 of the NWSC Act according to the BOD. The NWSC board chairperson, Eng. Dr. Badru M. Kiggundu, rated Dr Mugisha’s performance as very good and handed him a new contract until 2028.
“Under the leadership of the Board and Managing Director, the NWSC has made significant performance strides during the last ten years (2013-2023),” Dr. Kiggundu said. Under Dr. Mugisha, Eng. Kiggundu added that the number of towns under NWSC jurisdiction have increased from 23 to 268 and are expected to increase to 350 by 2028.
The number of people served by piped water in areas under NWSC have also increased from 4.5million to 18million and are projected to increase to 28million by 2028. Around the same period, the number of customer connections have increased from 296.000 to 874,000 and are expected to increase to 1,250.000 by 2028.
“Pipe network length has increased from 5,073Kms to 22.000Kms and is planned to increase to 32,000Kms by 2028; annual turnover has increased from UGX 155Billion to UGX 519Billion and is projected to increase to UGX 700Billion by 2028,” Dr. Kiggundu said. The assets under the current management have increased from UGX 650billion to UGX 4,1trillion and are planned to increase to UGX 6.6trillion by 2028.
The above statistics, according to Eng. Kiggundu, are key points why Dr Mugisha and his team’s performance had satisfied the board of the NWSC. “The Board would to like congratulate Eng. Dr Silver Mugisha upon his re-appointment and wish him well during the new tenure of his service,” Dr. Kiggundu wrote on behalf of the board as he requested and called upon customers to continue supporting the corporation.
“I assure our esteemed customers and all Ugandans at large that the next 5 years will be anchored on service acceleration in all corners of Uganda, under our jurisdiction. We have an aggressive expansion agenda to ensure water and sanitation for all, ” he said. Sarah Onyiru, the board member at NWSC also ecoed Dr. Kiggundu’s statements announcing Mugisha’s leadership re-appointment at the corporation as she highlighted the achievements as an enormous.
In August 2013, Eng. Mugisha was appointed the managing director, of NWSC. Dr. Mugisha holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Economics from Makerere University. He was previously a Chief manager in charge of Institutional Development and External Services at the NWSC. He has been with the Corporation since 1994 and has risen through the ranks.
He has worked with external organizations in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Nigeria Ethiopia among others. Mugisha was a board member of the Internal Water Association (IWA) since 2014 and later became the President of the Association from 2020 – to date. He is also Chairman of, the Finance Committee of the NSSF Board, Uganda from September 2021-to date.
