Kampala, August 5th 2025: Centenary Bank, Uganda’s leading commercial microfinance bank, has officially launched the Rotary Club of Mapeera, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing journey of community development and social responsibility.
Rotary is a global network of service clubs bringing together business and professional leaders to provide service to others, promote integrity, and foster goodwill and peace worldwide. The new club, named after Fr. Simon Lourdel—affectionately known as Mapeera—pays tribute to his enduring legacy of faith, education, and economic empowerment in Uganda.
Speaking at the launch held at the bank’s headquarters, Mapeera House, Centenary Bank Managing Director Fabian Kasi said the club will give staff a formal platform to amplify their community service efforts.
“The staff of Centenary Bank have always dedicated time and resources towards social causes,” Kasi said. “Through the Rotary Club of Mapeera, we will catalyze impactful community projects led by passionate Rotarians within the Centenary family. We look forward to championing causes in education, economic development, disease prevention, and environmental protection.”
Michael Jjingo, the designate Charter President and the bank’s General Manager for Commercial Banking, described the club as a legacy of service, mentorship, innovation, and transformation. “We didn’t want just another Rotary Club,” Jjingo said. “We wanted one that is intellectual yet warm, structured yet soulful—a place to laugh, learn, and lead, all in one meeting.”

Rotary District 9213 Governor Geoffrey Martin Kitakule commended the bank’s move, calling it “a shining example” of embedding service into corporate values. “By launching the Rotary Club of Mapeera, Centenary Bank is giving its people the tools, structure, and global network to serve effectively and sustainably,” Kitakule noted.
The launch builds on the bank’s long-standing partnership with Rotary Uganda, including sponsorship of the annual Rotary Cancer Run, where the bank has contributed over UGX 3 billion toward constructing the Rotary Centenary Bank Cancer Center. Other joint initiatives include tree planting for environmental preservation, youth empowerment programs such as the Vijana Powa initiative, and peace-building projects.
The Rotary Club of Mapeera will play a key role in advancing the bank’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, focusing on improving social and environmental well-being in communities where it operates.
