A rare photograph of First Lady Janet Museveni alongside her daughters, Mrs Natasha Karugire Museveni and Ms Diana Kyaremera Museveni, has brought a wave of relief among Ugandans following the First Lady’s prolonged absence from public view.

The photograph, which shows the First Lady standing between her two daughters, has quickly attracted attention, with many Ugandans interpreting her appearance as an encouraging sign after months of concern over her health.

President Yoweri Museveni had previously disclosed that his wife had been unwell, prompting widespread public interest and prayers for her recovery.

The new family portrait provides one of the clearest recent glimpses of the First Lady and has been warmly received by supporters and well-wishers who have continued to pray for her health.

In the photograph, Janet Museveni appears relaxed and smiling as she poses between Natasha and Diana. She is dressed in a black-and-white patterned outfit and wears glasses, while her daughters stand closely on either side of her.

Her prolonged absence therefore generated questions, although the family has maintained privacy around her personal health circumstances.The latest photograph appears to have offered reassurance without disclosing details about her medical condition.

Ugandans respond with prayers

Soon after the photograph emerged, messages of goodwill began circulating online, with several Ugandans expressing gratitude for seeing the First Lady looking cheerful and surrounded by her daughters.

Rene Diaz Bwambale described the photograph as “a heartfelt sight”, saying it showed the bond between Janet Museveni and her daughters.

“What a heartfelt sight today as First Lady Maama Janet Museveni shared a special moment with her beloved daughters, Mrs. Natasha Karugire Museveni and Ms. Diana Kyaremera Museveni,” Bwambale wrote.

He said the photograph spoke of “the powerful bond between a mother and her children”, built on faith, support and mutual respect.

Bwambale went on to wish the family well, writing: “May God continue to bless this family with good health, deep joy, and everlasting togetherness as they continue to inspire millions across the nation.”

Retiring UPDF General, Leopold Kyanda, has wished the First Lady quick recovery.

“We continue to pray for Maama’s complete healing. Amen,” Kyanda wrote, accompanying his message with prayer emojis.

His reaction reflects the dominant sentiment among many of those commenting on the photograph: happiness at seeing the First Lady again, coupled with continued prayers for her wellbeing.

Kamukama Fredie also shared the photograph and accompanied it with a biblical message from Psalm 91:16: “With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”

The verse was accompanied by prayer and heart emojis, reflecting the religious tone that has characterised many of the messages surrounding Janet Museveni’s health.

For many of her supporters, prayer has remained an important way of expressing solidarity with the First Lady and her family.

A picture that says more than words
