Today marks exactly one year since the passing of our dear colleague, friend and brother, Daniels Nabongo Tatya, a founding member of The Investigator news, whose death left a deep void among colleagues, friends and family.
Tatya breathed his last a year ago, bringing to an end a life that touched many people through his work, friendship and commitment to those around him. He was later laid to rest in Busembatia, Busoga, where family, friends and colleagues gathered to bid farewell to a man they had come to know and cherish.
For the YayaXtra Residence family, however, Tatya’s memory remains very much alive.
A year may have passed, but the memories of his laughter, conversations, companionship and contribution to the team remain fresh. His colleagues remember him not only for the work he did but also for the relationships he built and the warmth he brought to those around him.
His passing was particularly painful to colleagues who worked closely with him at The Investigator, where he was among the founding members. His contribution helped shape the publication in its formative years, leaving behind a legacy that colleagues continue to remember.
As the anniversary of his death is marked today, colleagues are once again reflecting on the moments they shared with him and the memories that time cannot erase.
Jako David Waluluka, the administrator and lead talk-show host of The Investigator, described Tatya as a comrade whose absence continues to be felt.
“We will always miss you, comrade Tatya. Till the day we meet again.”
Those words capture the sense of loss that has remained with those who knew him. While death may have separated Tatya from his colleagues physically, the memories of their shared journey continue to keep his presence alive.
At YayaXtra Residence, the remembrance is equally heartfelt.
Stanley Ndaula, the CEO of YayaXtra Residence, said the organisation continues to mourn Tatya as one of its own.
“As a family of YayaXtra, we miss you, ndugu Tatya. May your soul keep resting in peace.”
The words speak to the bond Tatya shared with the wider YayaXtra family — a bond that went beyond the workplace and became one of friendship, brotherhood and shared experiences.
As family, friends and former colleagues remember him today, they celebrate the life he lived rather than only mourning the circumstances of his departure. They remember the colleague who worked alongside them, the friend who shared their joys and challenges, and the brother whose presence made a difference.
One year later, the pain of losing Tatya remains, but so does gratitude for having known him.
His colleagues will continue to carry his memory in their conversations, their work and the stories they tell about the days they shared.
