KAMPALA, Uganda, 28th Oct 2025: Insurance giantsSanlamandAllianzhave officially unveiled their joint venture brand,SanlamAllianz, to the Ugandan public at a colorful event held today at theKampala Serena Hotel.
Formed in 2023, SanlamAllianz represents Africa’s largest non-banking financial services company, bringing together Sanlam’s deep Pan-African presence and Allianz’s global scale and financial strength. The venture aims to unlock growth across Africa’s high-potential markets while empowering generations to be financially confident, secure, and prosperous.
Speaking at the launch, Ruth Namuli, CEO ofSanlamAllianz General Insurance Uganda, and Gary Corbit, CEO ofSanlamAllianz Life Insurance Uganda, shared how the merger will shape Uganda’s insurance landscape and benefit local customers. Corbit described the merger as a “game-changer” for the industry.
“By combining Sanlam’s deep continental expertise and robust footprint with Allianz’s global scale, financial strength, and legacy, we are creating an African powerhouse,” he said. “We’re bringing over 200 years of collective experience to Uganda and setting a new benchmark for innovation and customer value.” He added that the timing aligns perfectly with Uganda’s expanding insurance market. “The sector showed resilience in 2024, achieving 10% growth in Gross Written Premiums amid a supportive 6.1% GDP growth. Life Insurance, in particular, grew by nearly 15%, reflecting a maturing market,” Corbit noted.
Under the new SanlamAllianz brand, existing customers will continue to enjoy their current policy benefits, now backed by stronger global expertise. The company also plans to expand investment indigital solutionsandinnovative productsdesigned for Ugandan consumers.
Namuli emphasized that the merger will strengthen inclusion and accessibility. “This union creates a platform to meet the evolving insurance needs of individuals, SMEs, corporates, and institutions across Uganda,” she said. “We’re committed to driving financial inclusion through innovation, technology, and partnerships that serve underserved segments of our population.”
Uganda’s insurance industry is undergoing rapid transformation, with increased digital integration and focus on sustainability. The 2024 Annual Insurance Industry Market Report indicates global premiums are expected to grow by 3.3% in 2025, driven by life insurance recovery and rising demand for health, liability, and cyber insurance products.
In his remarks, Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda, welcomed the merger: “This partnership brings together global expertise and local strength. It will enhance industry capacity, broaden access to quality insurance, and foster innovation and financial inclusion,” he said.
The rebrand will not disrupt existing services or customer benefits. Instead, clients can look forward to expanded product options, enhanced digital platforms, stronger claims reliability, and localized innovations to meet Uganda’s evolving insurance needs.
