Rumours, whispers and growing anxiety have gripped the royal corridors of the ancient Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom. This is after reports emerged that the kingdom’s Queen, Omugo Margaret Karunga Adyeeri, has allegedly left the palace under mysterious circumstances, and her whereabouts remain unknown.
Sources close to the palace in Hoima claim the Omugo has not been seen publicly for several days, sparking intense speculation among royal loyalists, clan elders and residents across Bunyoro sub-region. While kingdom officials have remained tight-lipped, elderly Banyoro insiders are now speaking in hushed tones about what they call “an unusual silence” at the royal court.
One elderly source from Kikuube District, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of royal matters, claimed thus; “The palace has become unusually quiet. Normally, the Omugo is visible during cultural preparations and charity activities. People are asking questions.”Another elder from Hoima reportedly told this publication that palace attendants have been avoiding discussions about the Queen’s movements. “In our culture, when senior royals disappear from public view without explanation, people become worried. This is not normal,” the elder allegedly said.
The development has sent shockwaves through the kingdom, where the Omugo is widely respected for her charity work, cultural advocacy and support for women and youth initiatives. Omugo Margaret Karunga Adyeeri has long been associated with community empowerment through the Omugo Development Foundation, which focuses on health, education and women’s welfare in the region.
The Queen has also frequently appeared beside King Solomon Iguru I during major kingdom ceremonies, including Empango celebrations and public events. However, palace insiders now whisper that tensions may have been brewing quietly behind the heavily guarded gates of Karuziika Palace. Unconfirmed reports suggest senior kingdom figures recently held closed-door meetings amid concerns over the royal household.
None of these claims have been independently verified.Efforts to obtain an official comment from kingdom spokespersons were unsuccessful by press time. Calls to several known palace contacts reportedly went unanswered, further fueling speculation across social media and trading centers in Hoima and Masindi. Some Banyoro subjects are now openly demanding clarity from palace authorities. “The Omugo is not just a wife to the king — she is the mother of the kingdom,” said another elderly royalist from Masindi.
“People deserve reassurance that she is safe.”Observers note that the Queen has traditionally maintained a highly visible public role, participating in campaigns against teenage pregnancies, health drives and cultural preservation activities throughout the kingdom. As rumours continue to spread, many subjects remain anxious, waiting for an official statement that could finally answer the question dominating conversations across Bunyoro: Where is the Omugo?
