Across and Beyond Borders: German Language School Launches Regional Review Across Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya

A prominent German language school with branches in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya has begun an extensive regional review to examine academic consistency across its three East African centres.

The audit, which kicked off earlier this month, will evaluate how the curriculum is delivered, the quality of classroom instruction, assignment standards and overall student performance. Senior administrators say the exercise is part of a routine quality-assurance process designed to ensure that learners in Kampala, Kigali and Nairobi receive the same level of instruction.

As part of the review, the school has invited independent educational researchers to observe classes, interview teaching staff and hold focus group discussions with students. The team will also scrutinise policies governing assessment, textbooks and digital learning tools.

Dr. Adrian Mutesi, who is leading the external evaluation, said the review aims to determine whether teaching approaches differ significantly between the three branches.

“There is growing demand for transparency in private education. Institutions working across borders must demonstrate that learners in separate cities are held to the same academic expectations,” Dr. Mutesi noted.

Each branch of the school serves more than 200 active students enrolled across multiple proficiency levels. Although the curriculum follows internationally recognised language-learning frameworks, administrators acknowledge that daily implementation can vary depending on class size, teacher experience and the availability of learning resources.

School officials expect the final report later this year. Its findings will guide future staff-training programmes and updates to internal teaching guidelines. They emphasise that no major structural reforms will be introduced until the review is concluded.

Education analysts say such wide-scale internal audits remain rare among mid-size language institutions in East Africa, but signal a rising commitment to quality assurance in the region’s private education sector.
