In a groundbreaking milestone for the region’s development, the Government of Uganda, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment, and the African Development Bank, commemorated the successful completion of the Kyankwanzi Mini-Water Supply System. Valued at an impressive UGX8.1 billion, this initiative is poised to serve approximately 22,808 individuals, marking a pivotal moment in the community’s access to vital resources.
Led by the dynamic efforts of M/S Vidas Engineering Service Co., the project, initiated in March 2021, has now achieved an extraordinary 99% completion rate. Rigorous testing and meticulous scrutiny have shaped this achievement, culminating in the Technical Commissioning and Handover ceremony to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC).
During the ceremonious event, Mr. Richard Matua Matua, representing the Ministry of Water and Environment, underscored the project’s critical components. These encompass a comprehensive infrastructure featuring a 200m3 reservoir tank at Lusozi, a generator house, pump house, borehole, transmission and distribution lines, water office, public and institutional sanitation facilities, consumer connections, StandPipes (PSPs), and auxiliary amenities like guard and kitchen houses.
Expressing profound gratitude for the unwavering support from the African Development Bank, Mr. Matua hailed the steadfast dedication of the Ugandan government in ensuring water accessibility. He commended M/S Vidas Engineering Service Co. for their exemplary execution and urged NWSC to maintain and expand the network to reach more communities.
Eng. Okaronon Edmund, Director of Regional Operations at NWSC, received the instruments of power during the ceremony, reaffirming the corporation’s commitment to the efficient operation and maintenance of the new facility. He emphasized NWSC’s customer-centric approach and announced plans to extend water services to adjacent areas earmarked for supply.
Furthermore, Eng. Okaronon outlined NWSC’s ambitious future endeavors, including community engagement programs and the construction of a new 3-million litre/day treatment plant in Akaapa village. This visionary project aims to address prevailing water availability challenges, particularly low yields from existing boreholes in the region.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed leaders, including the Honorable Woman Member of Parliament, Resident District Commissioner, Town Clerks, and Mayors of Butemba and Kyankwanzi Town Council, signifying the collective commitment and support towards this transformative venture.
The completion of the Kyankwanzi Mini-Water Supply System stands not just as a testament to infrastructure development but as a beacon of hope and progress, promising a future where fundamental needs are met and communities thrive.
