Investigative: The family of a Buwaate elder and Retired Head Teacher, the Late Hannington Matovu of is engulfed in a bitter fight for the Will of their late father. As a result, the Widow, Mrs Alice Matovu has dragged her fallen husband`s best friend to court, to compel him into producing the Will left behind by her hubby, The Investigator reports
Also, an NRM Bigwig, a shameless persona in Kizza Zephania Sseninde is the epitome of the fight against his departed old friend`s family, over his deliberate and stubborn refusal to let go of the deceased`s Will. Documents seen at Kira-premised Chief Magistrates` Court indicate how Sseninde has played the hide-and-seek games on the family, for now four straight years.
The Late Matovu passed away on 9th August 2018 and, just like many Baganda men of his caliber, a trusted friend, not even contracted lawyers, is indeed the one entrusted with such vital documents, mainly the Will. In Mzee Matovu`s case, that kind of friend was Sseninde. However, since that time, he is yet to produce and or read the Will to the family of his deceased `friend` Matovu.
Four of the children close to the deceased maintain that their father informed them that “Mr. Sseninde was in custody of his Will” but they have been unsuccessfully pursuing him since 2018. In a heated family meeting held in January this year at the deceased’s home in Buwaate, Sseninde confessed being in possession of the Late`s Will. But that was at that juncture. For, from this point, Sseninde went elusive mode. “He has since evaded reading the will to the beneficiaries on a number of agreed dates,” a bereaved family member cried.
In an affidavit sworn by the Widow, the same seen by this website, she brings the to the attention of the magistrate how she is a resident of Plot 1 Hannington Matovu Road, Buwaate Cell, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District. She states that Sseninde was given the duty to be custodian of the Late`s Will, plus the responsibility to read it to the beneficiaries upon the deceased death.
The Widow reveals how the other children of the deceased, headed by a one Drake Wasswa made a decision and took over her Matrimonial home before locking her out of the same. Despite this development, she insists that the deceased had disposed off his property among his children and hence, his Will should be able to give an insight on how the remaining Estate should be managed and handled.
She prays to Court that being aged 77years and a little frail, she ought to be allowed to know the ingredients of the Will and also, regain access to her Matrimonial home instead of inconveniencing her daughter with whom she lives to date. Our independent investigations gathered that Sseninde is deep in bed with the Drake Wasswa side and hence, can’t allow any kind of justice to flow into the Widow`s desired direction.
The Flashback
The Late Hannington Matovu was a retired Head Teacher. Before his retirement, he served at Wampeewo Primary School and Kira Primary School. Prior to that he was Head Teacher of Gayaza Church of Uganda Primary School and, this is where, he first met his would be future `trusted` friend Seninde.
Sseninde gradually became a great family friend to the Late Matovu`s especially during the latter`s last days. He had hitherto, been over the years managing family functions either as a Guest of Honour, Master of Ceremonies and or other dependable capacities. It’s no wonder therefore, he easily turned out as the ‘trusted’ custodian of the Will. His position as a Presidential Envoy to UNA could also, have hoodwinked Mzee Matovu to mistakenly comprehend Sseninde as a responsible citizen, which is a far cry to those in the know of the real man.
Indeed, upon the death of the deceased, Seninde started behaving elusive. Yet the family of the Late Matovu is a divided lot. On one hand is the Widow and her three daughters and son and, on the other is Drake Waswa and some other siblings. The Widow and her children are justifiably accusing Seninde of conniving with Drake Waswa to frustrate all efforts of reading the Will because Drake got wind of it that hes not a direct beneficiary. Why? A long story for another day.
But who is Drake Wasswa?
A Procurement Officer with the lately embattled Uganda Airlines, we can authoritatively account that Drake Wasswa is a prominent fraudulent character whose is a household name in the circles of landlords around Kira Municipality and beyond. His story alone would dilute the principal one under review. We therefore save our readers from such until the appropriate time in the following articles to this effect. Watch this space…
