The four-time horrible exhumation of a man tragically murdered thirty-nine years ago, worsened by the humiliating scattering of his widow’s remains, triggering a nasty scramble for the family estate, echo Judiciary’s and Police’ insensitive attitude towards powerless victims of impunity and lawlessness.
The initial exhumation of both the man and his widow was conducted in blatant abuse of the law. The raiders of the graveyard didn’t come with any court order. Consequently, they dug up the two deceased persons in absolute violation of the law. While the family duly made a report to the police, the case of disturbing the peace of the dead registered by the police itself, has since been simply left to gather dust on shelves at Kibuli CID headquarters.
The first case file opened at Bweyogerere police post ended up mysteriously going missing in the hands of the investigating officer (I.O) who was simply removed by his superiors from there and transferred to another police station elsewhere. The case file was puzzlingly lost by the investigating officer together with the complainants’ vital documents pertaining to their family land which the raiders of their graveyard were targeting to grab.
The family further filed a civil case in an effort to save their estate, but the judiciary has since rendered the victims absolutely powerless, licensing the aggressors to dig up their father’s remains for the fourth time, flatten out the entire burial ground and seal off their entire estate.
Such appalling attitude by the key government law enforcement agencies has since emboldened the aggressors to grab the entire deceased’s estate, depriving his surviving children of a home, sustenance from gardens seized, and lack of a burial ground.
The above-mentioned tragic and distressing events have for the last ten years, been unfolding over the estate of Augustine Kaweesa, murdered in 1984. Before his tragic end by shooting, Kaweesa stayed in Bbuto village, located in present day Bweyogerere Division in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district. This is a developing story. Keep watching this space for more puzzling follow ups.
